Introduction to Air gauging
In the U.K. the two most common makes
of air gauge are Federal and Mercer. Federal is a one zero setting ring
system and the unit is calibrated using a master jet kit. Mercer is
a Min/Max two ring system, to set up range. For both makes we can supply
new or reconditioned units.
We also sell and repair other makes such
as, Sheffield, CEJ, Sigma, Coventry Gauge, Neerburding, IBR and Etamic.
Dependability and Stability - Two characteristics
that spring to mind
Fast/Accurate/Reliable - Air flow
cleans the part. Response of the meter is repeatably fast
Non Contact - Wear is kept to a
minimum so tooling lasts longer and does not mark the component. This
also makes them useful for checking soft/polished and delicate parts.
High Magnification - Measure well beyond
the scope of mechanical gauges
Robust - Will take abuse and dirt in
a production environment
Easy to use - Minimum training required
Flexible - Can be used in process and
through to final inspection
Tooling - Made to order and can
measure many different features, for example when measuring a bore it
will also indicate out of roundness, ovality, taper and barrel shape.
Features Gauged - Through/blind/counter/deep
bores, outside/shoulder diameter, parallelism, straightness,taper,ovality,flatness,
squareness, thickness, clearance and interferance (match gauging)
Special fixtures - Air Gauging can
also be applied to special fixtures, to gauge unusual and more than
one feature at a time
Getting started - The bare minimum required
is a gauge unit, air plug and setting ring
